BIKING / WALKING
There are hundreds of companies offering biking and walking trips around the globe these days. This is literally a separate specialized niche in the travel world. So how to decide?
Well, Tom Hamilton was there back at the beginning when it all started with Butterfield & Robinson in the early 80s. He pushed hard for the concept to even survive, planned and led the trips, marketed them across the world, and in a way, created the industry as it is today.
But it didn’t end there, Tom wanted the trips to be even better. He felt the best way to improve the concept was by organizing only private groups and started up Hamilton Fitzjames in 1994 with that idea as the guiding principle.
These days, a couple of the biggest biking and walking companies are trumpeting the concept of “insider” and “private” as if these are new ideas. But at Hamilton Fitzjames, it’s all we’ve ever done and all we’ll ever do. The “bespoke” trips are not a sideline for us. Every trip we run is crafted around the needs and wants of that special client.
And naturally we have the best bikes, finest guides, great support vans and even tiny GPS units instead of simply speedometers.
